Clovis, NM – Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Quentin Ray, announced that on May 24, 2023, Monty Porter, age 58, of Portales, was sentenced to eighteen months incarceration.
After being found guilty at a jury trial on May 9, 2023, for battery on a household member, criminal damage to property and interference with communications, all misdemeanors.
On January 2, 2022, Deputy Jacob Bonner with the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office responded to 327 S Roosevelt Road O in reference to a battery. Upon arrival, Deputy Bonner met with the Victim that was bleeding from multiple lacerations on her face and neck. The Victim had just arrived home from a trip when Porter began to yell and fight with her and throw items across the house. Porter pushed her onto the bed and later pushed her into a wire shelf which caused the lacerations to her face and neck. The victim attempted to leave but Porter took her keys and her phone and left in her car. The Victim went to the neighbor’s house to call 911.
The Honorable Judge Mowrer presided over the hearing and sentenced Porter to eighteen months incarceration followed by two and one-half years of supervised probation with the adult probation and parole office.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney, Gina Nunez and Porter was represented by criminal Defense Attorney, Lance Sumrall, of Clovis.
