Jury Convicts Corey Dixon of Attempted 1st degree Murder in Brutal Jail Attack

Clovis, NM – Ninth Judicial District Attorney Quentin Ray announced today that Corey Dixon,  was found guilty of Attempted 1st degree Murder and Prisoner in Possession of a Deadly Weapon in connection with the brutal 2021 attack of inmate, Michael Bradley.

On June 3, 2021, the Major Crimes Unit was activated after an incident at the Curry County Detention Center left Bradley critically injured. Video surveillance revealed that Corey Dixon initiated a violent and prolonged attack on Bradley, who was legally blind in both eyes and asleep in his bed when the attack began.

Dixon was observed on video using Bradley’s own walking cane to beat him, then wrapped a towel around Bradley’s neck and strangled him. After briefly leaving to shower due to the amount of blood on him, Dixon returned and continued the attack, repeatedly stomping on Bradley’s head against the concrete floor. The video documented approximately 15 minutes of continuous and graphic violence.

Bradley sustained catastrophic injuries, including trauma so severe that a witness testified his eyeball was dislodged from the socket. He was immediately airlifted to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas, for emergency treatment. He survived the incident, but has since passed away on December 24, 2024, due to a heart attack.

“Mr. Bradley was a vulnerable individual, and the sheer cruelty of this attack is horrifying. We are grateful to the jury for their attention and their service in delivering justice.” said District Attorney Quentin Ray.

Corey Dixon faces up to 26 years in the New Mexico Department of Corrections. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled at a later date.

The case was prosecuted by District Attorney Quentin Ray and Assistant District Attorney Anthony Jaimes. Dixon was represented by defense attorney Sandy Gallagher.
