Clovis, NM – Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, announced that on February 22, 2021, Uriel Ramirez, age 26, of Clovis, was convicted per a plea agreement of seven counts of Receiving or Transferring a Stolen Motor Vehicle, two counts of Conspiracy to Commit Receiving or Transferring a Stolen Motor Vehicle, and one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance.
The conviction arises out of an investigation in October 2019. The investigation was conducted by the Curry County Sheriff’s Office and involved the cooperative efforts of the Clovis Police Department, Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office, and Parmer County Sheriff’s Department of Texas. Through this extensive investigation, officers located numerous vehicles which had been stolen at night from ranches and dairies throughout the area in the preceding months by Mr. Ramirez and others working with him. Since Mr. Ramirez’s arrest, the number of reported stolen vehicles in Curry County has significantly reduced.
During the hearing, the State indicated that Mr. Ramirez’s crime spree was likely driven by addiction, but was a plague to our community which had to have consequences. Mr. Ramirez expressed that his actions were the result of him having a drug addiction and that he wished to try and get sober while serving his time.
The Honorable Drew Tatum sentenced Uriel Ramirez to six years in the Department of Corrections followed by five years of probation and one-year parole. Mr. Ramirez is subject to a potential additional nine years of incarceration if he violates probation. During incarceration, Mr. Ramirez will be recommended to the Residential Drug Abuse Treatment Program.
