Portales, NM – Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Quentin Ray, announced that on January 10, 2023, Mireya Valdez, age 49, of Portales, was found guilty by a jury, of possession of a controlled substance.
On May 8, 2019, Amador Lujan with the Portales Police Department observed Valdez driving near Ivy and Ave. B and knew she had an active warrant for her arrest. Valdez was on probation for Trafficking Methamphetamine. Valdez ‘s purse was searched by officers and 8.3 grams of methamphetamine were discovered.
The Honorable Donna J. Mowrer presided over the trial. Sentencing will be held at a later date and Valdez faces up to five and one half years in prison.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney, Brian Scott Stover, and Valdez was represented by criminal defense attorney, Sandra Gallagher of Portales.
